Time Between Two Dates Calculator
Calculate elapsed time between two dates and times in days, hours, minutes, and seconds, with total-hour and total-minute results.
TIME BETWEEN TWO DATES
Compare a start and end date and time to measure the elapsed duration between the two timestamps.
The result breaks the interval into days, hours, minutes, and seconds and also shows whole total hours, minutes, and seconds.
Set a start and an end timestamp, each with its own date and time, to measure the interval between them. The result is broken into days, hours, minutes, and seconds and repeated as whole totals so you can copy a single figure in the unit you need.
Both timestamps are read in your device's local time zone, so an interval spanning a daylight-saving transition reflects the clock change rather than counting 24-hour days. Milliseconds are dropped before the comparison, so results are exact to the second.
Worked examples: From 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on the same day is 8 hours 30 minutes, or 510 total minutes — From 10:45 PM on one day to 6:15 AM the next day is 7 hours 30 minutes. From 9:00 AM on 1 January 2026 to 9:00 AM on 3 January 2026 is 48 hours, or 2 days — From 2:20 PM to 4:05 PM is 1 hour 45 minutes, or 105 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the time-between-dates result include?
- It shows complete 24-hour blocks plus remaining hours, minutes, and seconds. It also reports whole total hours, whole total minutes, and total seconds.
- Can I compare dates in either order?
- Yes. The calculator uses the absolute elapsed difference, so the result remains positive whichever timestamp comes first.
- Does one day always mean the next calendar date?
- No. In this result, one day means a complete 24-hour block. A daylight-saving transition can make the elapsed interval between the same local clock time on consecutive dates 23 or 25 hours.
- Are the start and end dates inclusive?
- The calculator subtracts the two timestamps; it does not add either boundary as an extra unit. Identical timestamps therefore produce a zero duration.
- How many hours are between 9 AM and 5:30 PM?
- There are 8 hours and 30 minutes, or 510 minutes, between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM on the same day.
- How many hours are between 10 PM and 6 AM?
- From 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM the next day is 8 hours.
